Here is a list of advice I gave my son Indy a while a go. He had just turned eighteen and I wanted to be sure I hadn't forgotten important things to tell him. These are my principles I live by.

  • Karma is real-good deeds are always rewarded.
  • It’s not what happens to you- it’s how you deal with it that counts.
  • Know what you are good at.
  • Do what you love because you are usually good at it and money will come.
  • Be careful crossing the street- always!
  • Don’t be in a car with a speeding or pissed driver.
  • Don’t be driving pissed or speeding.
  • If it seems too good to be true it usually is.
  • Balance what you have to do with what you want to do.
  • Walk away/ apologise.
  • Creative pursuits are rewarding- even if you do them for yourself.
  • If you feel you are in danger you usually are. Change route/ cross the road.
  • Avoid confrontation.
  • Other people’s dramas and emotions are usually not trivial for them.
  • Postpone decisions if unsure-“I will get back to you.”
  • You will know you are on the wrong path because things will fuck up.
  • You will know you are on the right path because doors will open.
  • You have many choices in life.
  • Most people on the planet do not have the same options and choices for life as you do.
  • Everyone is basically the same- we all want the same things.
  • Belief in God is positive thinking- and that always helps.
  • Don’t go to bed angry with someone- resolve it.
  • Don’t blame other people…but then again don’t blame yourself.
  • Being positive is better than being negative.
  • Wear a condom- herpes are not cool, neither are abortions.
  • Lead by example.
  • Truth is greater than love.
  • Be true to yourself and others.
  • The easiest thing in the world to do is give up.
  • Men do cry.
  • If you love yourself it will be easier to love others.
  • Love yourself first.
  • Personal diaries/ journals are good for the soul.
  • The future is uncertain which means potential opportunities.
  • Weigh up pro’s and con’s if unsure of something.
  • If you let people talk about themselves they will like you.
  • Listen to people-they like that. (see above)
  • Being friendly has its own rewards.
  • Make people laugh.
  • Train yourself to be confident-everyone loves confident people.
  • It is always liberating to tell the truth.
  • Say “I don’t know.” No need to guess.
  • Stay clear of people who harm animals-they are training for harming people.
  • The past is exactly that.
  • If you live with regret you are living in the past.
