My clothes were used in a recent editorial for New Zealand based Remix magazine. Styling by my friend Weave.
Love the whole look of the shoot. Beautiful photos, great styling (Thanks Weave!) and the guys are pretty handsome too.
It's funny- but not surprising- that my clothes look completely different than when I am not wearing them. Also, I don't wear my clothes like this- all bear chest and beads. I can be more objective and just sit back and appreciate them. I don't really do that very often, if at all. Here's to more of that in the future!
How do you 'step away' from what you have created? Seeing it in someone else's home? Looking at photos of it? Just curious.

What? There are clothes on those (ridonkulously handsome) men? I'll have to go take another look....
Since 95% of the clothes I make are for me, the only way to be objective about them is to see the pictures. It's a different world than the more commercial venue of sewing for others. The commercial creative world I used to be involved in wasn't clothing, but it always delighted me when someone wanted to buy something I made. Years later, when I see someone using one of my creations (arty dowsing pendulums) my heart goes all a-twitter with joy. Just seeing pictures does little for me - I like to see them being used!
Some clothes!
It is so nice to see others using what you made- AND that actually wanted them.
Dowsing pendulums? Cool.
Awesome shoot, congratulations! You are a star!
I would find it tough seeing my clothes on somebody else. I'm nearly always disappointed with what I make after the fact and I can only see the mistakes.
That is really, really cool! Great styling! And it must be rewarding to see your stylish and cool stuff on these really pretty boys:-)
Sorry, I re-read that and it came out a bit off... I meant my comment as self-referential, and will re-iterate that your creations are always amazing and utterly gorgeous!
Steufel- Thanks and they are pretty.
Carolyn. Thank you. I understand your comment completely. Some elements of my work I love- other bits I really, really don't like.
Congratulations on your work being featured, that must feel amazing. I, however prefer the look of your clothes on you. These men are clearly gorgeous but I like your styling better.
Them boyz is purdy! The clothes and shoot look great Don - you should be really proud. Years ago a friend and I had a business making kids dress-up clothes (before the market was flooded with all that junk from China) and every now and then I see a kid wearing the tatty remains of one of our costumes - they seem to get passed along/down! That makes me feel good - like I contributed something you know? Adelaide is so small that I do see people wearing jewellery I have made and that is neat too. One of my daughters has been known to bowl up to women and say "Nice necklace - my Mum made that!" She is kinda outgoing ...
fantastic!
I'm already bragging "I knew Don when!" It must be amazing to see one's work in editorial photos--congrats!
Congrats on the editorial! Very cool!
Had to laugh at Jilly B's comment. Exactly! Clothes? Oh. Right. heh.
They DO look very different tho Don on the boyz. I've always though that D does an amazing job of photographing/styling your work.
That said ... interestingly had occasion to see a photo of some of my work hung at a friend's house. I find it surreal. And am completely detached, having no ownership and often, don't even recognize that it IS from me.
Existential Art, methinks. :)
Kudos on being published and your continued success!
Wow! :)
What great promotion!
It is always very surprising to me to see my creation on other people.
Even after 25 years and hundreds of pieces!
Elle C- Thanks so much! It feels great- another high!
Sue- Thanks. Hand- me down costumes! Gone are the days.
Paula- thanks!
Sidereal- Thank you
Deborah- Cheers!
Jen- Thanks Jen- will pass the compliment onto D. She does a great job- and I am demanding.
Susan- Feels good!
DD- Its a nice feeling for sure. Out at a club with a friend of a friend who was wearing a t-shirt of mine from 7 years ago- and he still loved the shirt.
Wowsers, perfectly styled and shot. They captured your aesthetic perfectly. I bet it feels surreal, well done Don you deserve every stitch of recognition.
How edgy and soooo cool is this photo shoot! There is a different vibe than your photos, which are pretty cool to begin with. Happy for you Don!
Every time I visit here you have achieved more greatness! You can stop making us all look bad now.
Great shots! Groovy clothes, perfect styling and such pretty guys...you must be thrilled.
Congrats on your continued success, Don!
