I can't even begin to imagine how this feels. It wet's my eyes just thinking of it. He looks soooo sweet..How many years did he live? Dogs are such incredible creatures. Many warm hugs to you and to baxter.
Thank you all for the kind words of support. It has been a big two weeks for grrl and me. Every day seems a little better. We still walk every morning and are looking into being 'dog minders'.

Hola Don: My first love was Duchess, the german shepherd. I tried to ride her when I was 3, and learned my lesson quickly. For 13 + years she never left my side, she protected me, and was my best friend. I was a Good Girl, but I ran away from school at 6 years, to be with Duchess!

Lost a dog when I was young, round 12. 49 now, this kind of news is still heart-breaking.
Luckily you did make that beautiful portrait to remember.
