JEANS OF ELI

After seeing the movie The Book of Eli once again had me thinking about what jeans I would wear in the post-apocalypse world.

For a start, they need to be durable with no zips or clips that would not be replaceable- buttons only. Stitches need to hold- triple or quadruple would be good. Maybe a secret pocket (for lip balm- a scarce commodity in Eli, or for antibiotics.
Pocket for a knife. Heel guards. Extra pockets. Heavyweight denim. Button fly.

So, I made them to those specs.

My new favorite jeans. The Jeans of Eli.

The apocalypse may not be tomorrow- but at least I will be prepared.

And wearing my own brand.

(My own pattern too)

What would you wear?

i dont think i'd want to live in a world where i can't have my beaver organics highland mint lip balm!

and it kinda scares me that you have a knife handy to slide into your jeans.

these are cool though. can i put an order in? haha

I am so impressed! Those jeans are seriously cool, and so full of thoughtful details. I'm inspired to make some of my own post apocalyptic pants.
Interesting movie, I watched it a few weeks ago but have been wanting to watch it again to pay a little more attention to the details.
My husband did a cartoon drawing of me in his version of post apocalyptic gear, I should post it.
Anyhoo, I'm starting to ramble.
Awesome pants!

Ha - my family always scoff at my post-apocalypse lists/ideas about things we would need - wait till I tell them about your JEANS! Massively practical, hardwearing and they also look stylish. Nice to know that you don't need to let your standards slip in a post-apocalyptic world! I feel reassured!

Very cool. Love all the details. And where is that antibiotic pocket?!

Oh, I love these - the details are great. All those neat pockets. Not sure what I'd need for apocalyptic gear, but you're on the right track!

wow you are talented! these are terrific... truth be told, my daughter for the past 6 years has only spoken about a zombie uprising - so the main focus has been upon food and shelter (where to stay?) not apparel :0) ... but you nailed this one... makes me think of 'the road' as well...
really beautifully executed and your attention to detail is always so eye opening...

amazing! I can only handle one sewing project at a time, but hopefully there are jeans in my future. Thanks for the inspiration.

maybe that could be the byline for your jeans -

able to withstand the apocalypse

or

a zombie uprising.

Heh. I once did a post on repairing a zipper fly under a zombie attack and thought about this sort of thing as well. I think double fronts (think 'tin pants')would be very useful (though very hot)and durable. My husband's big wear out points are the rear pockets and the seat, so I'd probably make the seat double and put the pockets inbetween the two layers instead of putting a patch pocket on it.

in a post apocalypse world i swear i would totally wear the same exact thing i wear every day now.
Plastic shorts. They didn't used to be plastic. They were pants that i wiped glue and paint on so often that they have developed a bit of plasticity. I cut them off as part of the first rites of spring and now rock plastic shorts.
cowboy boots. My lucky ones are purple.
grey tank top.
neon green sports bra.

No Variation Ever.

That's what i wear now, and it is what i will wear after the pending nuclear holocaust.

But i do like your jeans.

and if i wore jeans, i'd so wear those.

Xx,
Amy

I love your thinking. What a cool idea, to go to a movie and then design clothes for that world. Love it. You have brought fantasy into another area of my life. Thank you.

I too want to know where that secret pocket is.

Mainelydad: Thanks, but you do one amazing job at a time.

Grrl: Or sewing machine cursing?

Toby: Thanks for another good idea.

Amy: Plastic shorts and purple cowboy boots? Come over for cans of baked beans.

Grand Purl Baa: Aw mum! Do I have to?

Seth: International shipping. All sizes.

Azirca: Thanks so much.

Sewingelle, Zom: Sorry, can't tell you.

what would i wear? well, i would come over to your house, steal all the drape drape things you've made for your mate for me and your new jeans for ruggy.

now i have to watch book of eli. sounds like my kind of gig.

I LOVE this idea! I might do something similar someday, but I think I would go with a skirt -- skirts being easier for me to fit and to move in. I've often thought that a long skirt (but not too constricting) would be my post-apocalyptic wardrobe. Harder to wear out and easier to repair too.

Could not get through Book of Eli, however. I'm a weenie when it comes to frighteningly accurate depictions of civilization's collapse. I'm convinced I'd be among the first to die.

ooo, those are good! I don't wear jeans as a rule - I hate being cut in half by them - but I'm loving the pockets, especially the secret one and the knife holster... my swiss army would fit perfectly.... I think, as I can't get comfy in jeans, I would transfer the details to a nice pair of baggy combats... then I can sit down as well as get in on the action!
